The Right Fish
Getting the best from farmed Ballan wrasse is crucial for both the salmon farmer and the wrasse farmer. Otter Ferry have worked over many years to increase the production of Ballan wrasse so that commercial numbers of fish are available annually and that the quality and size of these fish matches our customer’s expectations.
Farmed Ballan wrasse are an excellent cleaner fish. And more and more of our customers recognize that a sustainably farmed fish, with known provenance and health status is the right fish for their business. So, to make sure that the maximum potential is realized from these fish, Otter Ferry is launching a new customer support package that will follow each batch of fish for each location to be stocked. This will begin in the hatchery at the ‘conditioning phase’ through to deployment and onwards during the salmon cage phase. This process will identify the key parts of this journey and ensure that every effort is made to minimize any factors that can negatively affect the potential of these fish.
